In the Wild | Week 3

The wild can be unsettling, uncomfortable and even unbearable. It is in the wild that we tend to forget what God has done. But, what if there was a different way to live in the wild? To actually hold onto the most important things?

Like us, every time God’s people failed to remember they were set free, they ended up in slavery, fear, and worry. One of the most significant (and repeated) words in the book of Deuteronomy is the word REMEMBER.

Join us this summer for a journey through the Old Testament as we discover ancient practices that will help anchor our uncertain future.

Key Passages: Malachi 3:6-12 (NIV New International Version)

“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.  7  Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’ “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.

Genesis 14:19-24 and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. 20  And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. 21  The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself.” 22  But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,  23  that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’  24  I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me—to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre. Let them have their share.”

Genesis 15:1 After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”

Matthew 6:19-20, 21 19  “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  20  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
