Life Hacks | Week 2

None of us will look back in 10 years and say “I wish I had a less healthy marriage.” or “I wish my soul was a little less rested.” Whether you follow Jesus or not, you want to grow. To be mature. To find yourself emotionally strong and spiritually rooted. However, it’s not always easy to make these things happen. What if you could hack this process? Scripture gives us life hacks (strategies) to keep our souls healthy. In this divided time, we are getting back to the basics of what God intended for us - a healthy soul.

Passages:

James 3:3-6 (NIV) When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.  4  Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.  5  Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.  6  The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

James 3:7-10 (NIV) All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind,  8  but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9  With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.  10  Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

Titus 3:1-2 (NIV) Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,  2  to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

Titus 3:3-7 (NIV) At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.  4  But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,  5  he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,  6  whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,  7  so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

John 12:49-50 (NIV) For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.  50  I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”
